Make music for free: best free apps for making music on Android, iOS, Mac, and PC – RouteNote

To tell the truth, there are so many choices of free apps for making music that it can be hard to decide which is right for you. Well, we’ve narrowed the list down to 5 of the best apps for making beats, playing with MIDI, and recording audio.
Industry-standard DAWs like Cubase, Ableton, and FL Studio are pretty expensive. While some break the cost down into tiers and offer various levels of functionality, these free music production apps for mobile & computer give you all the functionality you’ll need to get started making music.
These free apps will let you make your own music easily. We’ve included beat-making apps for PC & Android, online DAWs where you can make music without paying a penny, and one notorious free music-making app for Mac & iOS devices. You see, we really have covered all bases…
So let’s get stuck in and talk about the best apps where you can make music free of charge.
Roland’s Zentracker is our favorite free app for making music and it’s available for both iOS and Android.
Zentracker is our favorite free music-making app for mobile for many reasons. Firstly, you can work with audio and MIDI. Secondly, Zentracker allows you to punch-in new recordings over a portion of old ones during playback in addition to standard recording. Thirdly, Zentracker gives you an unlimited amount of audio channels!
You can plug two effects at a time on each channel, and each channel has two sends too. Furthermore, Zentracker utilizes a “track freeze” function which converts everything to audio. As a result, you can continue creating even if your phone processor starts to run slow.
The free version of Zentracker gives you a Compressor, Reverb, EQ, Delay, Chorus, Flanger, and Auto Wah! And Roland gives you 200 onboard looped samples with the free version too. With that said, certain effects do require payment
Finally, Zentracker utilizes intuitive automation and allows you to collaborate with fellow artists on the same project in different locations.
GarageBand comes with every iPhone, iPad & Mac device and is a fantastic app for making easily for free. In fact, it’s an entry-level DAW, and its workflow is based on Apple’s flagship digital audio workstation Logic Pro.
Garageband is a free app that’s easy to get started with. It’s stocked with professional samples of all kinds of instrument presets, loops, and other samples, and you can record your own audio and insert it onto audio tracks inside Garageband too.
You’ll find 32 audio tracks, a sequencer, a live loop DJ feature, and a lot more in the free iOS app for making music. A simple set of controls make music production & recording on the go easy.
Bandlab is a free app for making music on iPhone, Mac, Android, Chromebook, and PC. It features 120 professional instruments, and you can connect your own instruments too.
While DAWs like Ableton, FL Studio, and Logic Pro will give you a plethora of features for a hefty price Cakewalk’s BandlLab will give you many of the same features for free. In fact, seasoned producers and recording artists may find something valuable.
Furthermore, the audio or MIDI channels feature some pretty heavy-hitting plugins. For example, you’ll find an EQ, compressor, tube saturation emulator, and a selection of console modules. But you can add additional effects like reverb, tape emulation, and more.
Better yet, you can access projects you make on the BandLab mobile app on the desktop software too!
In the same fashion as BandLap and Zentracker, Soundtrap is also available for iOS and Android devices. Created by Spotify, Soundtrap works on both your phone, tablet, and PC.
As a result, Soundtrap is the best beat-making app for iPhone and Android devices, as well as Mac and Windows computers! Soundtrap is full of features with a seamless workflow, and that’s why it’s one of the best music-making DAWs.
Soundtrap features an AutoTune effect, automation capabilities, and over 4,000 professional-quality samples and preset for you to use however you like. Additionally, Soundtrap gives you a range of virtual instruments, loops, one-shots, and you can record your own audio too.
As far as collaboration is concerned, Soundtrap provides a space for collaboration between friends and fellow artists. Soundtrap allows you to watch featured tutorials as soon as you sign up, so you definitely won’t get lost and you can just get can get stuck quickly. It’s pretty easy to find your way around thanks to its easy-to-use interface.
However, some effects do require you to pay like Zentracker. Even so, Soundtrap is a fantastic tool for recording any ideas on the spot!
Finally, Zenbeats is another free Roland music-making app for Android and iOS. Like Zentracker, its interface and workflow will keep you in your creative zone.
In fact, Zenbeats’s main selling point is that it’s built around a vintage of new and classic Roland sounds! Zentracker is easy to use and encapsulates Roland’s history of sound creation.
Ultimately, Zenbeats converts the history of Roland into an accessible beat-making application. You’ll find a plethora of presets, samples, and creative tools that will blow your creative palette into the sky. You can also purchase hip-hop and electronic sample packs in the app too.
Zenbeats lets you record across multiple tracks, generate ideas, and transfer the stems to a DAW straight away. Playing around with vintage Roland synths is a favorite pastime of many producers, and Zenbeats provides a generation of them.
Now that you have your free software, it’s time to get to know your choice of free DAW/app so you can record your songs and make your beats.
But the freebies don’t stop there! Developers are constantly offering free instrument and effect plugins for PC & Mac DAWs, and you can find the best free virtual instruments right here.

Novation launches dedicated FL Studio hardware controllers – DJ Mag

The FLKey 37 and FLKey Mini are designed to work with the popular DAW
Novation has launched a new controller range called the FLKey. Designed to work specifically with FL Studio, the FLKey is similar in design to the popular LaunchKey range that’s been popular for Ableton users for a few years.
The FLKey 37 features 37 full-size keys, with controller pads and knobs on top, and a series of transport controls for stop, play, record etc.
You can control FL’s Step Sequencer directly from the controller, as well as control the Mixer and there’s a Scale and Fixed Chord mode. There’s direct control for automation, preset browsing and you can customise the controls to tailor the FLKey to your needs in the studio.
FLKey Mini takes the same concepts as the full-size 37 key version and shrinks it down, with smaller keys and a touchpad version of the pitch and mod wheels. There are still the same controls for Channel rack, as well as Fixed Chord and Scale mode, as well as User Chord mode to build up your own custom chords.
Both units are available now – the FLKey 37 costs £166 while the Mini is £88 excluding VAT. Find out more on the Novation website.

Masters 2023: Here's everyone who has qualified so far to compete at Augusta National (we think) – GolfDigest.com

Crystal Ball
Scottie Scheffler gets the Masters trophy from Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley after his 2022 victory.
Andrew Redington
For many golf fans, the void created by the end of the PGA Tour’s fall season brings about an involuntary response:
So, how many days until the Masters, again?
Die-hards will know it’s 136 until Thursday’s opening round, and here’s hoping Tom Watson can make it back as an honorary starter after his go-kart accident last week. Meanwhile, the prospect of a new tee box being used on the par-5 13th at Augusta National already has fans anxious for April to get here ASAP.
In thinking about the Masters, the natural instinct is also to think about who is playing in the Masters. That question is a bit more tenuous heading into 2023 with the specter of LIV Golf potentially altering the usual invitation list.
Masters officials have not said whether players banned by the PGA Tour for competing on the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit might also be restricted from competing at Augusta National. The club has not formally released qualifying categories for 2023, either, although don’t read too much into that. They typically aren’t posted on the tournament website until late December or early January, around when the club begins to send out invitations to players who have qualified.
So while nothing is official yet, let’s presume for a moment that the traditional qualifying criteria does carry over into 2023 and that LIV golfers who earn spots through qualifying will indeed be welcomed to drive down Magnolia Lane. If that’s the case, by our estimation 80 golfers are currently in the field, including all living past champions. Winnowing out those who won a green jacket but no longer play in the tournament, the list of likely competitors is around 65, depending on whether the likes of Trevor Immelman might compete again or if Sandy Lyle might call it a career.
MORE: The Masters of the future—the next innovations for golf’s most innovative tournament
Below then are the players who we believe have earned invitations if the 2022 criteria is carried over for 2023. Mind you, there are still more additions likely to come to this list. Presuming again the 2022 qualifying categories carry over, the top 50 in the final Official World Golf Ranking who aren’t already in the field will qualify, as well winners of PGA Tour events from January through April that give out a full allocation of FedEx Cup points. Additionally, the winner of the Latin America Amateur Championship in January is expected to be given a spot.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ England vs Iran – LIVE – beIN SPORTS MENA Breaking News

Follow all the action from the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar TM on beIN SPORTS

Report
England made a scintillating start to their World Cup campaign as Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham inspired a 6-2 rout of outclassed Iran in Monday’s Group B opener in Doha.
Saka and Bellingham were England’s driving forces with dynamic displays that underlined their emergence as two of the game’s brightest young stars.
Bellingham, 19, shattered Iran’s hopes of frustrating England when he rose to head his maiden senior international goal in the first half.
Gareth Southgate’s side were in sparkling form at the Khalifa International Stadium and goals from Saka and Raheem Sterling put them in complete control before half-time.
Saka, 21, netted again after the interval and, although Mehdi Taremi struck twice for Iran, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish completed the demolition.
There will be far sterner tests to come for England as they bid to win their first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.
But this was a welcome step in the right direction for Southgate, whose team arrived in Qatar on a six-match winless run that triggered scathing criticism of the Three Lions boss and his perceived negative tactics.
The only concern for Southgate was the sight of Harry Maguire being replaced in the second half after being checked for a potential head injury.
England play their second match against the United States on Friday and conclude their Group B fixtures against Wales on November 29.
Having reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 before losing to Italy in the Euro 2020 final, England are desperate to take the last step to silverware in Doha.
Southgate had urged his team “play on the front foot” and they responded in style, after initially finding their rhythm disrupted by a long delay when Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand smashed into team-mate Majid Hosseini.
Despite being in no state to continue amid fears of a concussion, the bloodied Beiranvand played on before finally being substituted.
England eventually penned Iran deep inside their own half and Bellingham delivered in the 35th minute.
Sterling found Luke Shaw on the left flank and his cross was perfectly weighted for Bellingham, who looped a fine header into the far corner.
Playing for Birmingham in the Championship just two years ago, the Borussia Dortmund star’s goal made him England’s second youngest scorer at a World Cup behind Michael Owen.
Eight minutes later another of England’s gifted prodigies doubled the lead.
Maguire headed down a corner and Arsenal forward Saka swivelled to lash a superb left-foot finish into the top corner.
Sterling put the result beyond doubt with his first goal at a World Cup in first-half stoppage time.
Bellingham fed Kane, whose pin-point cross was volleyed home by Sterling with the outside of his boot.
Saka made it four in the 62nd minute when he shuffled across the Iran area before stroking his shot past Hossein Hosseini.
Taremi fired into the roof of the net to reduce the deficit three minutes later.
Rashford’s cool finish in the 71st minute, 49 seconds after he came on, was followed by Grealish’s 90th-minute tap-in.
Taremi struck from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game after a shirt pull by John Stones, but the margin of victory reflected England’s total dominance.

Preview
The Three Lions’ pursuit for a first major trophy since 1966 kicks off with a FIFA World Cup opener against Asia’s top ranked side, Iran.
The majority of England supporters look back fondly on the nation’s previous World Cup display in Russia. A memorable run to the semi-finals, followed by Kieran Trippier’s stunning free-kick against Croatia sent supporters across the country into a frenzy. Ultimately, England fell short, but there has been more positive progress since.
The Three Lions reached the EURO 2020 final and once again opened the scoring, this time courtesy of left-back Luke Shaw. Despite the considerable progress this youthful England side has made, they are still yet to be rewarded with a trophy.
Optimism has been slightly tempered heading into Qatar 2022. Gareth Southgate’s side enter the World Cup following a winless Nations League campaign – losing twice to Hungary and once to Italy as England were relegated to League B.

The Three Lions are looking to avoid matching an unwanted record when they take on Iran. Only once have England failed to win seven games in a row, way back in 1958.
Southgate will be hoping his side can end their winless streak and build confidence ahead of clashes against Wales and the USA
.
Kyle Walker and James Maddison remain doubts for the opener, while Kalvin Phillips’ lack of game time with Manchester City this season could see him resigned to a spot on the bench.

England Predicted Team:

Iran’s consistent performances have seen Team Melli rise to 20th in the world rankings, and while England are favourites to top Group B, Iran will be optimistic of securing second place.

Carlos Queiroz’s side are eagerly anticipating their third consecutive World Cup tournament, but will be hoping to improve on their goals-per-game ratio of 0.6 – the worst of any country that has played over 10 matches in the competition.

Appeals court halts the Mar-a-Lago special master review – NPR

A federal appeals court says a lower court must dismiss the case filed by former President Donald Trump challenging the court-ordered search of his Mar-a-Lago estate, seen here in August.
WASHINGTON — A federal appeals court on Thursday ended an independent review of documents seized from former President Donald Trump’s Florida estate, removing a hurdle the Justice Department said had delayed its criminal investigation into the retention of top-secret government information.

The decision by the three-judge panel represents a significant win for federal prosecutors, clearing the way for them to use as part of their investigation the entire tranche of documents seized during an Aug. 8 FBI search of Mar-a-Lago. It also amounts to a sharp repudiation of arguments by Trump’s lawyers, who for months had said that the former president was entitled to have a so-called “special master” conduct a neutral review of the thousands of documents taken from the property.

The ruling from the Atlanta-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit had been expected given the skeptical questions the judges directed at a Trump lawyer during arguments last week, and because two of the three judges on the panel had already ruled in favor of the Justice Department in an earlier dispute over the special master.

The special master litigation has played out alongside an ongoing investigation examining the potential criminal mishandling of national defense information as well as efforts to possibly obstruct that probe. Attorney General Merrick Garland last month appointed Jack Smith, a veteran public corruption prosecutor, to serve as special counsel overseeing that investigation.

It remains unclear how much longer the investigation will last, or who, if anyone, might be charged. But the probe has shown signs of intensifying, with investigators questioning multiple Trump associates about the documents and granting one key ally immunity to ensure his testimony before a federal grand jury. And the appeals court decision is likely to speed the investigation along by cutting short the outside review of the records.

The conflict over the special master began just weeks after the FBI’s search, when Trump sued in federal court in Florida seeking the appointment of an independent arbiter to review the roughly 13,000 documents the Justice Department says were taken from the home.

A federal judge, Aileen Cannon, granted the Trump team’s request, naming veteran Brooklyn judge Raymond Dearie to serve as special master and tasking him with reviewing the seized records and filtering out from the criminal investigation any documents that might be covered by claims of executive privilege or attorney-client privilege.

She also barred the Justice Department from using in its criminal investigation any of the seized records, including the roughly 100 with classification markings, until Dearie completed his work.

The Justice Department objected to the appointment, saying it was an unnecessary hindrance to its criminal investigation and saying Trump had no credible basis to invoke either attorney-client privilege or executive privilege to shield the records from investigators.

It sought, as a first step, to regain access to the classified documents. A federal appeals panel sided with prosecutors in September, permitting the Justice Department to resume its review of the documents with classification markings.

The department also pressed for access to the much larger trove of unclassified documents, saying such records could contain important evidence for their investigation.

The Technology Behind The Epic Livestream Of ‘Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium’ – Forbes

Elton John’s final live concert in the United States will be streamed live on Disney+ on “Elton John … [+] Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium.”
It is the end of an era. Sir Elton John will perform for the last time ever in the United States as he plays his farewell performance of the “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Tour” at Dodgers Stadium in LA tonight. Fortunately, those of us who aren’t in Los Angeles and do not have tickets can still be part of the epic event because the concert will be streamed live on Disney+.
Elton John’s music is timeless and spans generations. Elton John’s first performance in the United States was more than 50 years ago at the Troubadour in Los Angeles in August of 1970. But the concert that really put Elton John on the map and marked the explosion of his career was October 25, 1975, at Dodger Stadium. It is fitting that he will end his touring career where it really all began.
I spoke with the show’s producers, Ben Winston and Gabe Turner, about being able to share the event around the world live, and capture it for posterity.
Elton John is before my time—and yet I grew up on Elton John. I can say the same thing about The Beatles, or Elvis, or other music from my parents’ generation. But what sets Elton apart is that it wasn’t just classic hits being played on repeat—Elton John was still making Top 40 hits throughout the 80s and 90s, and still is. 50 years after “Your Song” became the first Elton John song on the Top 40, the remix of Cold Heart with Dua Lipa hit #32 in 2021.
Hits like “Little Jeanie,” “Blue Eyes,” “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues,” “I’m Still Standing,” and “Empty Garden”—helped define the 80s. As I told Ben and Gabe, though, it was the album “Greatest Hits” that became the anthem of my time in the Air Force as my good friend Joe Donaldson and I played it on repeat throughout our time at tech school in Denver and on our adventures across England once we deployed to RAF Upper Heyford.
“I totally agree. I think he goes across so many generations,” said Ben. “I refer to that 1975 gig, or something like that when it comes to Elton—that was six or seven years before I was even born, and yet I still know about it and love it.”
He explained, “You go to these Elton shows—and we’ve been going to a lot of them to get ready for Sunday—and the crowd is phenomenal in the difference in ages. You will see people who were there back in 1975, but you’ll also see seven and eight year old kids in the front row—singing every word to every song—and you’re like ‘This is a phenomenal reach!’ But, ultimately, his music is timeless.”
There is definitely something to be said for being at an event like this in person. There is an energy to a live performance and a sense of nostalgia that can only truly be experienced by the people in the stadium.
That said, those of us watching the concert live streamed on Disney+ will have the best seats in the house, and an objectively better viewing experience. We will have the benefit of multiple cameras—and the ability to see the show from different angles and zoom in or pan out as needed. Ben and Gabe told me they are using 23 cameras, plus helicopter cameras, as well as drones to ensure the live stream is as incredible as it should be.
I mentioned how it is a bucket list item for me to attend an NFL Super Bowl in person for the experience, but that I appreciate watching the game from the comfort of my own living room with the different camera angles, and replays, and zooming in.
When you’re at an event like that, you have the view you have—whether it’s the front row, or the 15th row of the upper deck. As Ben and Gabe put a production like this together, though, there’s a choreography to it. They aren’t just putting a camera on a tripod in the 5th row and providing a static view of the concert. Elton John needs to be able to just do his show and perform the way he performs, but Ben and Gabe and everyone involved in producing the live stream for Disney+ need to be intimately familiar with how the show will be performed so they can orchestrate the best camera angles.
“I think our job is to make sure that the way we cut those cameras and the choices that we make reflect the music and also change and continue to evolve as the who goes on. What we can’t do is make the show ever feel like it’s stagnating,” shared Ben. “I think you’ve got to shoot each song in a different style, and in a different way.”
“It’s a different thing being there and just being part of it,” explained Gabe. “But, I think you’re right that we have the benefit of multiple cameras and the ability to try and follow the emotion and curate a piece that does Elton justice. That’s a really good challenge for us and we’re really excited to do that.
After the performance is over, Ben and Gabe will spend some time going back through the footage to edit. The live stream will exist as-is for a few weeks, and it will capture the moment in time, but there may be camera or angle decisions that are made in real-time that could have been better.
Ben told me, “We’re going to watch it again and we’re going to take the best of the best. There might be moments that our vision mixer, or our technical director just didn’t hear, and we’ll have time to make it absolutely perfect so it’s a moment of history rather than a live cut.”
“Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium” will stream live tonight on Disney+ starting at 11pm Eastern / 8pm Pacific time. A pre-show, Countdown to Elton Live” will begin 30 minutes earlier and feature interviews with Elton John and his husband, as well as video snippets from friends and colleagues. If you don’t catch it live, the concert will be available on-demand on Disney+.

Artemis: Nasa expects humans to live on Moon this decade – BBC

Humans could stay on the Moon for lengthy periods during this decade, a Nasa official has told the BBC.
Howard Hu, who leads the Orion lunar spacecraft programme for the agency, said habitats would be needed to support scientific missions.
He told Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that Wednesday's launch of the Artemis rocket, which carries Orion, was a "historic day for human space flight".
Orion is currently about 134,000km (83,300 miles) from the Moon.
The 100m-tall Artemis rocket blasted off from the Kennedy Space Center as part of Nasa's mission to take astronauts back to Earth's satellite.
Sitting atop the rocket is the Orion spacecraft which, for this first mission, is uncrewed but is equipped with a 'manikin' which will register the impacts of the flight on the human body.
Wednesday's flight followed two previous launch attempts in August and September that were aborted during the countdown because of technical woes.
Mr Hu told Laura Kuenssberg that watching Artemis lift off was "an unbelievable feeling" and "a dream".
"It's the first step we're taking to long-term deep space exploration, for not just the United States but for the world," he said.
"And I think this is an historic day for Nasa, but it's also an historic day for all the people who love human space flight and deep space exploration.
"I mean, we are going back to the Moon, we're working towards a sustainable programme and this is the vehicle that will carry the people that will land us back on the Moon again."
Mr Hu explained that if the current Artemis flight was successful then the next would be with a crew, followed by a third where astronauts would land on the Moon again for the first time since Apollo 17 50 years ago in December 1972.
The current mission was proceeding well, he told the BBC, with all systems working and the mission team preparing for the next firing of Orion's engines (what is known as a burn) at lunchtime on Monday to put the spacecraft into a distant orbit of the Moon.
Mr Hu admitted that watching the mission from Earth was not unlike being an anxious parent, but he said seeing the images and the videos coming back from Orion "really gives that excitement and feeling of, 'wow, we are headed back to the Moon'".
This video can not be played
Watch: Nasa's Artemis I rocket blasts off
One of the most critical phases of the Artemis I mission is getting the Orion module safely back to Earth. It will re-enter the planet's atmosphere at 38,000km/h (24,000mph), or 32 times the speed of sound and the shield on its underside will be subjected to temperatures approaching 3,000C.
Once the safety of Artemis's components and systems has been tested and proven, Mr Hu said the plan was to have humans living on the Moon "in this decade".
A large part of the reason for going back to the Moon is to discover whether there is water at the satellite's south pole, he added, because that could be converted to provide a fuel for craft going deeper into space – to Mars, for example.
"We're going to be sending people down to the surface and they're going to be living on that surface and doing science," Mr Hu said.
"It's really going to be very important for us to learn a little bit beyond our Earth's orbit and then do a big step when we go to Mars.
"And the Artemis missions enable us to have a sustainable platform and transportation system that allows us to learn how to operate in that deep space environment."
The Orion capsule is due back on Earth on 11 December.

T. rex could have been 70% bigger than fossils suggest, new study shows – Livescience.com

When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Here’s how it works.
The largest T. rex to ever live may have weighed up to 33,000 pounds.
There’s no denying that Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the biggest and baddest dinosaurs to ever walk the planet. But exactly how big could this ferocious dinosaur get? In a new investigation, researchers attempted to answer that question.
Paleontologists from the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, Ontario, estimated that the largest T. rex may have tipped the scales at a whopping 33,000 pounds (15,000 kilograms), making it heavier than an average school bus, which weighs about 24,000 pounds (11,000 kg). The scientists presented their findings on Nov. 5 at the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology’s (SVP) annual conference in Toronto.
Currently, the heftiest T. rex on record is a specimen nicknamed “Scotty,” which weighed 19,555 pounds (8,870 kg) when it was alive — about as much as 6.5 Volkswagen Beetles.
According to the new research, the largest T. rex “would have been about 70% bigger” than Scotty, said study co-author Jordan Mallon (opens in new tab), a research scientist and head of palaeobiology at the Canadian Museum of Nature. “That almost doubles the size of T. rex,” Mallon told Live Science.
To reach this weighty conclusion, the scientists first examined the fossil record, which shows that approximately 2.5 billion T. rexes once lived on Earth. However, only a small fraction — just 32 adult fossils (opens in new tab) — have ever been discovered, giving the scientists a limited amount of information to pull from.
Related: ‘Bold theory’ that Tyrannosaurus rex is 3 species gets stomped to pieces
Mallon and co-author David Hone (opens in new tab), a senior lecturer and deputy director of Education at Queen Mary University of London, also looked at population numbers and average life spans to create a model of the largest possible T. rex. They also considered variations in body size based on sexual dimorphism — size differences between the sexes of animals within a species.
“We wound up building two models — one exhibiting zero dimorphisms and one with strong dimorphism,” Mallon said. “If T. rex was dimorphic, we estimate that it would have weighed up to 53,000 pounds (24,000 kg), but we rejected that model because if it were true, we would have found even larger individuals by now.”
Using this data, the scientists were able to model T. rex’s growth curve throughout its lifetime — and estimate how big an adult might have grown.
Mallon cautioned that until a T. rex is found that is comparable in size to the one in the model, the model’s conclusions are purely speculative.
“This is simply a thought experiment with some numbers behind it. It’s something that’s fun to think about,” Mallon said.
Indeed, the investigation highlights how challenging it is for paleontologists to draw conclusions about dinosaur species from a very limited fossil record.
—Why did T. rex have such tiny arms?
—Not just tiny arms: T. rex also had super small eyes to accommodate its big bite
—Famous T. rex had a bone infection, new medical scans reveal
“This reminds us that what we know about dinosaurs isn’t much at all, since the sample sizes are so small,” Thomas Carr (opens in new tab), a vertebrate paleontologist from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, who wasn’t involved in the new research, told Live Science. “Right now, we are nowhere near the sample size needed, especially when compared to other species of animals.”
Carr, who attended the SVP conference, added that it’s plausible T.rex may have been much bigger than any individual scientists have found so far
“It’s truly a stupendous animal,” Carr said. “To imagine a T. rex of that magnitude is extraordinary, and I think an animal of that size is within reach statistically.”

EQ Inc. Reports 2022 Third Quarter Financial Results – AccessWire

TORONTO, ON / ACCESSWIRE / November 18, 2022 / EQ Inc. (TSXV:EQ) (“EQ Works” or the “Company”), a leader in geospatial data and artificial intelligence driven software, announced its financial results today for the third quarter ending September 30, 2022.
EQ’s revenue for the third quarter of over $2.1 million, was a decrease from the same quarter a year ago. Data revenue, as a percentage of total revenue, increased to 33% for the quarter showing once again the value and importance that clients place in data assets and solutions that provide value to their business. The overall decrease in revenue resulted primarily from reductions in the media division as certain campaigns were delayed and the Company refocused much of its resources towards its higher margin recurring revenue suite of products.
During the third quarter, and continuing into the fourth quarter, various cost cutting and restructuring changes were initiated to both headcount and operations. With a focus on profitability and higher margin recurring revenue products, these changes have reduced the Company’s overall cost structure by approximately $2.5 million annually. Based on current forecasts, the Company expects to be profitable in the second half of 2023 and will continue to monitor its business outlook and make additional changes if required.
Highlights for the Third Quarter ended September 30, 2022
Media revenue for the quarter was impacted primarily by reduced spending in the automotive sector, with certain budgets being pushed out to later in the year. The Company believes much of this revenue will materialize in future quarters and to date, the Company has fourth quarter bookings that are already approximately 50% higher than the previous quarter, in addition to the continued momentum in its recurring revenue products.
The Company continued to focus its investments during the quarter into its recurring revenue suite of products. Those investments, combined with the reduced media revenue, resulted in an adjusted EBITDA loss for the quarter of approximately $1.4 million. With these investments now substantially complete and products currently in market, the Company is focused on profitability. Sales and marketing efforts to grow its recurring revenue will continue as the Company rolls out its insights and data products for both the retail and automotive verticals. Each of these verticals account for hundreds of millions of dollars of spend annually for data, analytics and media. EQ’s investments in unique and proprietary data, that adhere to privacy and compliance protocols, complemented with solutions that make data actionable, are significant differentiators and position the Company extremely well to address these markets.
“We are confident with the investments we have made and by focusing on the future and listening to our clients, we have solutions in market that continue to be in demand and address the challenges of the current data and privacy landscape” said Geoffrey Rotstein, CEO of EQ Works. “While we are by no means satisfied with our results this quarter, we are already seeing momentum return and some of the delayed campaigns from previous quarters are already back in market. Our product releases are being met with enormous interest and position us well to grow our monthly recurring revenue, enhance profitability, help mitigate quarterly fluctuations in revenue, and forecast stronger financial results in the quarters to come.”
As part of the renewed focus on products, recurring revenue, and changes to the team, the Company also announced that Dilshan Kathriarachchi will be leaving the organization. Dilshan has had a tremendous impact on EQ and has been a key contributor to our success to date and the Company wishes him the best with his future opportunities.
Non-IFRS Financial Measures
EQ Works measures the success of the Company’s strategies and performance based on Adjusted EBITDA, which is outlined and reconciled with net income (loss) in the section entitled “Reconciliation of Net Loss for the period to Adjusted EBITDA” in the MD&A. The Company defines Adjusted EBITDA as net income (loss) from operations before: (a) depreciation of property and equipment and amortization of intangible assets, (b) share-based payments, (c) finance income and costs, net (d) depreciation of right-of-use assets (e) restructuring cost (f) transaction costs of acquisition. Management uses Adjusted EBITDA as a measure of the Company’s operating performance because it provides information on the Company’s ability to provide operating cash flows for working capital requirements, capital expenditures, and potential acquisitions. The Company also believes that analysts and investors use Adjusted EBITDA as a supplemental measure to evaluate the overall operating performance of companies in its industry.
The non-IFRS financial measure is used in addition to, and in conjunction with, results presented in the Company’s consolidated financial statements prepared in accordance with IFRS and should not be relied upon to the exclusion of IFRS financial measures. Management strongly encourages investors to review the Company’s consolidated financial statements in their entirety and not rely on any single financial measure. Because non-IFRS financial measures are not standardized, it may not be possible to compare these financial measures with other companies’ non-IFRS financial measures having the same or similar names. In addition, the Company expects to continue to incur expenses similar to the non-IFRS adjustments described above, and exclusion of these items from the Company’s non-IFRS measures should not be construed as an inference that these costs are unusual, infrequent, or non-recurring.
The table below reconciles net loss from operations and Adjusted EBITDA for the periods presented:

From museum to film studio: one of Glasgow's most versatile buildings – Yahoo News UK

Plus Prince Harry's new claims and Richard Madeley's bed blunder
To walk past it, you could be forgiven for thinking the Kelvin Hall less impressive than its neighbour, the imposing red sandstone palace that is the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
But while it seems more modest, Kelvin Hall boasts an impressive ‘CV’ and has been a crucial part of Glasgow’s entertainment over the years. It has been used as a clothing store, a museum, and is now a state-of-the-art television studio.
The steel-framed building dates from 1927, replacing its predecessor which was destroyed in a fire. It opened in 1918 to host the British Industries Fair, and then operated as a clothes shop when it was taken over by military authorities.

In 1919 both the hall and its adjacent building – which used to be a roller-skating rink and was used for the making of munitions during the First World War – were bought over.
From then on, the buildings were used for major events in Glasgow such as exhibitions, carnivals, flower shows and the circus. Kelvin Hall’s annual circus delighted visitors for nearly sixty years, showcasing exotic animals including lions, tigers and elephants for revellers to see.
Some of the world’s biggest stars crossed the threshold of this West End building, from Ella Fitzgerald to Elton John. The Kinks once released a live recording of their 1967 performance, Live at Kelvin Hall, and for many seasons it was the home of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s Proms.
What many of us remember Kelvin Hall for, however, is the Museum of Transport which moved there in 1988 from the Coplawhill tram station in Pollokshields until it moved to the riverside in 2010.

Since its takeover by Glasgow Life, Kelvin Hall looks to continue being a hub for the city’s entertainment and culture. In 2016 it underwent a £35m project which transformed it into a hub for learning, health and fitness.
Just this year, the Hall introduced a 10,500 sqft television production studio which is now open and regularly filming major projects, like Channel 4 prison drama Screw.

How to Enable Live Activities on iPhone – MacRumors

With the release of iOS 16.1, Apple is launching its new Live Activities feature for iPhone Lock Screens and iPhone 14 Pro models with Dynamic Island. Keep reading to learn what it does and how you can enable it.
ios 16 live activities feature
Live Activities are lingering interactive notifications that stay up to date, allowing you to keep an eye on things happening in real time right from the Lock Screen. If you’re following a sports game, for example, you can see the updated score on the Lock Screen, or if you’re waiting for a Uber ride, you can watch for your driver to approach.
On the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ and Pro Max, Live Activities also integrate with the ‌Dynamic Island‌. During a Premier League match, for example, the ‌‌Dynamic Island‌‌ shows a live-updating scoreboard with the number of goals scored by each club on either side of the True Depth camera pill. When long pressed, the ‌‌Dynamic Island‌‌ expands to show the time elapsed and play-by-play action.

When an ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ is locked, the score is shown in a widget on the Lock Screen instead. On the iPhone 14 and ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus, and on all other ‌iPhone‌ models without the ‌Dynamic Island‌, Live Activities are limited to the Lock Screen.

You can enable Live Activities for the Lock Screen on an ‌iPhone‌ running iOS 16.1 or later by following these steps.
settings
Apple has made a Live Activities API available for developers, and there are already several third-party apps in the App Store that make use of the feature.
Users in the U.S. and Canada can also check out Apple’s TV app support by opening the TV app and tapping on the Follow button on a supported sports game. Live Activity scores should then appear on your Lock Screen and/or ‌Dynamic Island‌ accordingly.
iOS 16 Live Activities Sports MLB
Live Activities in the TV app are available for MLB games for users in the U.S., Canada, Australia, U.K., Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and South Korea, in addition to NBA and Premier League games for users in the U.S. and Canada only. The feature will likely be expanded to other sports leagues in the future.
